How Do You Handle Conflict in Your Team?
Question
How do you handle conflict within your team?
Answer
When a conflict happens, I stay calm and try to understand the other person first. I focus on the problem, not the person, and I never let emotions control the discussion.
My usual approach has three steps. First, I listen carefully to understand their point of view, because many conflicts happen when people feel they are not heard. Second, I share my opinion clearly and respectfully, using facts and examples instead of personal feelings. Third, we look for a solution together that is best for the project, not just for one person. If we still cannot agree, I suggest asking a senior teammate or the team leader for their opinion, and I accept the final decision even if it was not my first choice.
In my experience, most conflicts at work come from different priorities or missing information, not from bad intentions. So when we communicate openly and keep the team's goal in mind, conflicts usually turn into useful discussions.
