Tell Me About a Time You Had a Conflict with Your Manager
Question
Tell me about a time you had a conflict or disagreement with your manager.
Answer
Situation: At MedRing, my manager once asked me to release a feature on a very tight deadline. However, I knew the feature touched important data, and rushing it could cause a serious bug in production.
Task: I needed to respect the deadline, but I also had to protect the quality of the system. Saying "no" was not a good option, so I had to find a middle way.
Action: I stayed respectful and did not just disagree. I explained my concerns clearly, showing which parts were risky and why. Then I proposed a plan: we could release the safe core parts of the feature on time, and move the risky parts to a small update about one week later. I also promised to prepare careful testing for the risky part so it would be ready quickly.
Result: My manager agreed with the plan. We delivered the main feature on schedule, and the remaining part was released safely one week later. After that, my manager trusted me more, and we started to communicate more openly about risks and deadlines.
This experience taught me that when I disagree with my manager, the best way is to stay respectful, explain the reasons clearly, and always bring a solution, not just a problem.
